Gone South Airlines

Southwest Airlines has been cited by the FAA as having missed crucial inspections on many of its aircraft.  It seems about 70 of its planes missed routine rudder control inspection. As well the airline has failed to make fuselage cracks inspections on 46 of its planes.  In short the airline could be an accident waiting to happen.

The good news is that the airline has been kick ass about monitoring what it considers inappropriate dress by some of its passengers.  There was a story not long ago where a Hooters girl boarded a flight, wearing a short skirt and tight halter top. The flight crew was Johnny on the spot in telling the young lady to either cover up with a blanket or leave the plane before take off.  There have been similar other stories about the airline staff ordering passengers to don appropriate attire, all for the safety and comfort of the other passengers.

It is obvious that Southwest Airlines would have a perfect defence were a crash to happen and a major lawsuit to follow.  The airline could readily plead that its morality standards exceed all other airlines in that department.  I am certain the airline has researched what its customers want and that it has not acted nilly willy. It will likely be able to point to surveys conducted wherein passengers were asked questions like:
“Would you rather we inspect our aircrafts’ wings or ask attractive young women in short mini skirts to cover their legs?”
Or:
“Southwest listens to its passengers.  Which is more important to you: Rudders that work or knowing that you can fly on Southwest without having to look at cleavage?”
I have never flown with Southwest but I imagine it goes the extra mile in safety procedures. The flight attendant probably announces at the start of the flight, “Please look around and check for your closest exits and for passengers not wearing bras.”

Southwest is known as the largest low fare carrier. It is certainly not hard to understand how it has been able to turn a handsome profit.  After all you don’t need costly mechanics to hassle and lecture  Hooters girls or Playboy bunnies.
